The matches. The story behind them.
Back from the announcer’s microphone
Watching matches as a ring announcer, Jun Ogawauchi felt a competitive intensity was missing—and wanted to bring it back. He returned to wrestling at SECRET BASE’s Shinkiba show in 2009. In a later personal statement, he explained what had made him want to compete again.
He had wrestled in Toryumon T2P and as JUN in CRAZY-MAX. He retired in 2004, three years after his debut in Mexico, but took up the microphone in dragondoor and El Dorado. After introducing wrestlers and watching their matches, he returned to competing himself.
Choosing a ring to stand behind
As SECRET BASE established its structure as a promotion, Ogawauchi chose to join its roster. He explained that choice himself: taking responsibility for a ring to protect would express his commitment to wrestling. The place where he had returned to competition became the promotion he belonged to.
In 2013, he won his comeback match after an absence with Shandora no Tomoshibi. In 2015, he defeated Go for the openweight championship. When he later lost the belt to Mototsugu Shimizu, his attack ranged from joint holds to low dropkicks, 鬼風車 and a diving knee drop.
Shandora no Tomoshibi also delivered the win when he teamed with Katsunari Toi in 2023. Their opponents were Tetsuhiro Kuroda and Nobuhiro Kaseda. The move that had won his return match was still earning him victories ten years later.
