Profile

Against an old rival, one more time.

Leap onto an opponent, rotate and pin her down. Those attacks were already part of Shiori Akiba’s professional debut. At Korakuen Hall in 2014, after losing to Yuuka, Akiba spoke of wanting to win the next time they met. Her words on her debut day revealed her competitive spirit.[S01]

A debut with Ice Ribbon, a freelance career, joining SECRET BASE while out of action, and a return after roughly two and a half years. Following Akiba’s journey means seeing former opponents become partners and old friends meet again. Alongside her spinning and aerial moves, the stories she shares with her opponents offer another way to enjoy her matches.[S09][S13][S14][S15][S18]

What to watch

When watching Akiba, follow what happens after she leaps onto her opponent. Does she finish with a throw, or continue into a pin with both shoulders on the mat? The huracán rana was also the move that earned Akiba her first personal pinfall victory in 2014.[S04]

01

Corbata / Huracán rana

These moves catch the opponent around the head or neck with the legs and use the wrestler’s rotation to take her off balance. In a huracán rana, that action leads into a pin, holding both shoulders on the mat. Akiba showed spinning attacks from her debut and scored her first personal pinfall victory over 235 with a huracán rana on May 6, 2014.[S01][S04]

02

Arc-en-ciel

A biographical reference describes this move as a round-off followed by a jumping stunner. A round-off is a gymnastics movement in which the hands touch the ground as the body changes direction. Akiba then moves into a stunner, placing the opponent’s chin on her shoulder and using the force of the drop. Results from REINA in 2016 and Beginning in 2017 record victories with this move.[S10][S11][S21]

03

Swanton Bomb

An aerial move in which the wrestler rotates forwards from the corner and lands back-first across her opponent. At Shinjuku FACE on September 15, 2026, Akiba followed it with a leg-hook pin to score the three-count over Gakinyan Kamen.[S19]

Beyond the ring.

For a while, her name was “Akiba-shi”

During her freelance years, a dispute over Akiba’s name played out in YMZ in 2015. Her “Ori contra Ori” match with Kaori Yoneyama required the loser to remove “ori” from her name. Akiba lost on November 1 and became “Akiba-shi.” A rematch, rock-paper-scissors and even a drawing contest did not win her name back.[S08]

But on November 22, she turned up as a participant at a YMZ event and demanded its return again. She finally won a rock-paper-scissors contest against another attendee and reclaimed “Shiori Akiba.” The official blog preserves this episode of her continuing to compete for her name, even outside the wrestling ring.[S09]

Story 01

A debut rival, a new home while away

Losing to Yuuka, then earning her first pinfall

After competing in amateur pro wrestling and becoming an Ice Ribbon trainee, Akiba made her professional debut against Yuuka on March 30, 2014. She used a flying headscissors to send her opponent spinning and a huracán rana to press both shoulders to the mat, but lost to a schoolgirl pin in 5:55. Afterwards, she spoke about training at the dojo almost every day and regarding Yuuka as her first rival.[S01]

Before long, she teamed with that same Yuuka to challenge for a championship. At WNC’s Yokohama event on May 5, they faced REINA World Tag Team Champions Makoto and Kaho Kobayashi. Kobayashi pinned Akiba, leaving the challengers without the belts.[S02][S03]

The following day, May 6, Kyuri was her partner at Ice Ribbon’s event in the same Radiant Hall. Facing Kaho Kobayashi and 235, Akiba caught 235 with a huracán rana. At 6:33, she earned her first victory by personally pinning an opponent. The official report describes her celebrating in an embrace with Kyuri. The winning move was a spinning attack that still connects to the way she is introduced today.[S04]

Leaving Ice Ribbon and meeting new opponents as a freelancer

She was not able to wrestle throughout 2014. An absence was announced in June, and she returned on August 31. Her match alongside Kyuri on October 11 was her last as a member of Ice Ribbon. On December 24, the promotion announced that, because continuing her activities had become difficult, her affiliation contract would end the following day.[S05][S06][S07][S18]

She returned as a freelancer in 2015, competing across promotional boundaries. At REINA’s Oji event on November 19, 2016, she beat Hirori, with Arc-en-ciel recorded as the finish. In December she faced Yako Fujigasaki in JWP. At Beginning in January 2017, she teamed with Asami Hisato and defeated Nao Kakuta with Arc-en-ciel. These matches in other promotions, as well as title challenges, helped shape her career.[S10][S11][S12][S18]

Joining SECRET BASE while waiting to return

Her signing with SECRET BASE was announced on July 26, 2020. She had originally planned to return at that day’s Shinjuku FACE event, but withdrew following a request to refrain from travelling from her place of residence to Tokyo. At the venue, she spoke by phone through Bear Fukuda’s handset, and Bear announced her joining the promotion. Nearly a year separated the day her new affiliation was announced from her first match for it.[S13]

Her actual return came at Shinjuku FACE on July 22, 2021. For her first match in roughly two and a half years, she teamed with Bambi, a wrestler she had often faced. In her pre-match comments, Akiba said she wanted to win with Bambi’s help and avenge an earlier singles defeat against opponent Hanako Nakamori. She also looked forward to facing the other opponent, Chie Ozora, who had debuted in 2020.[S14]

The match ended in 15:04 when Nakamori defeated Akiba with a Shining Wizard. This was Akiba’s first match as a member of SECRET BASE.[S15]

Story 02

Beyond ten years, old friends, the same corner

Mima Shimoda and Hikari Shimizu for her tenth anniversary

At Shinjuku FACE on October 20, 2024, a match was billed as “Shiori Akiba’s 10th Debut Anniversary — Autumn.” She teamed with Miss Mongol against Mima Shimoda and Hikari Shimizu. Shimoda defeated her with a bridging tiger suplex in 11:09, but the match marked a decade since her debut in a tag encounter bringing together wrestlers of different generations.[S16]

On December 1 of the same year, she teamed with Bunny Oikawa against Miss Mongol and Gakinyan Kamen. Akiba pinned Gakinyan Kamen with a bridging fisherman’s suplex to win in 12:14. Miss Mongol, who had stood beside her in the anniversary match, was now across the ring. Remembering who teams with whom and who faces whom makes the connections between matches easier to see.[S17]

Reunited with Kyuri, her partner in that first pinfall win

On August 24, 2025, she took part in Ice Ribbon’s match celebrating Kyuri’s 12th debut anniversary. Kyuri, Akiba and Sumika Yanagawa faced Makoto, Saran and Kiku. Kyuri had shared the celebration of Akiba’s first personal pinfall victory in 2014 and had been her partner in her last match as an Ice Ribbon member. Yuuka, Akiba’s opponent in her professional debut, was also at ringside that day, seconding Kyuri’s team.[S04][S18]

During the match, Akiba attacked Kiku with a Dial Hold, a low dropkick and an attack from a rope-assisted hanging figure-four headscissors. Her team lost when Makoto forced Kyuri to submit, but this record of old friends gathering in one match shows relationships that stretch back to 2014.[S18]

An aerial attack leads to victory in 2026

Her aerial attacks are worth following too. At Shinjuku FACE on September 15, 2026, she teamed with Miss Mongol and Aina Aoi against AKARI, Bunny Oikawa and Gakinyan Kamen. Akiba followed a Swanton Bomb with a pin on Gakinyan Kamen to win in 11:07. Quick rotations into pins and attacks from the corner both appear in the record as paths to victory.[S19]

On May 5, 2014, at WNC’s Yokohama event, Akiba teamed with Yuuka to challenge Makoto and Kaho Kobayashi for the REINA World Tag Team Championship. Kobayashi defeated Akiba with a brainbuster suplex hold in 12:56, giving the champions their first successful defence. This was a title challenge, not a championship win.[S03]
